Christmas Gifts

Another Christmas has come and past! I hope everyone got to spend plenty of time with family and friends and had lots of delicious food.

This post will be about some of the lovely gifts I received from my family. Usually I have a small idea of what I'll be getting if I've hinted at something or if some one has given it away. This year I was clueless. I had no idea which made me even more excited!

One of my favourite gifts would have to be the Michael Kors watch. It's a rose gold limited edition one that has crystal accents. I really wasn't expecting a new watch seeing as a bought myself a white acrylic one about 4 months ago but lately I've been lusting after the rose gold watches. This was definitely a generous gift that I am obsessed with! I still haven't gotten it sized yet but I'm dying to start wearing it.
The second gift I'm mentioning is a Tiffany charm bracelet. This gift meant a lot to me only because I've loved these bracelets ever since I was a little girl. Again, it was a huge surprise but I am in love with it. It has the heart charm with "I love you" written on it with cursive writing. Also it has the clasp instead of the toggle because apparently people have been complaining about losing their bracelets because of the toggle coming loose. I like the look of the toggle but I'd rather have a bracelet with a clasp than no bracelet at all! Anyways, this was such a lovely gift and I can't thank my parents enough.
Another gift I got was actually a sports jersey. You're probably thinking why I would get any gift relating to sports if I'm writing a whole blog about fashion. Well I have to admit that I have a secret obsession with hockey and specifically the Toronto Maple Leafs. I won't bore you for long but I was lucky enough to get a TML jersey with Kessel on the back. I'll be wearing it for the rest of the games this season for sure! Who cares if we make the playoffs?
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their holidays! Also, leave me a comment with what Santa brought you! I'd love to hear :)

Kate Spade

In one of my previous posts I mentioned the top item on my Christmas wish list which was the Kate Spade fragrance, Twirl. I also said that I couldn't buy it when I was in the US because I wouldn't be able to bring it on the plane. Anyways, my wonderful mother bought it when I wasn't looking and managed to bring it back with her! It was the 1.7 oz instead of the 3.4 oz so it worked!
It was such a lovely gift since I wasn't expecting it at all! I was talking to my mom today and we were saying how Kate Spade has a way to make things classy yet so fun at the same time! There are always tiny details that make you smile. For example on many of her handbags and wallets there are playful polka dots on the interior. I truly believe that it's the little things that make something special and this comes across in almost everything by Kate Spade. My mom and I decided that we would love to sit down with Kate Spade and Deborah Lloyd (creative directors) and ask them where their inspiration comes from and how they seems to connect with everyone through their designs.
Reading through this it seems like such an obsessive post but I can't say enough good things about this designer. I know it's not classified as "high fashion" or a "luxury brand" but whether it's a handbag, jewelry, perfume, or gloves, there's something about these products that seem to put a smile on your face.

Youtube Beauty Guru's

Recently I've noticed that I'm becoming obsessed with the beauty guru's that are on youtube. Mind you, if you do not want another way to accomplish procrastinating, then do not read this post! These video's are highly addicting!

A couple months ago my friend showed me a video from "allthatglitters21." At first I was thinking that it was a cute idea, but nothing special. Then whenever I had the time I would glance back at the same page and watch some of her other videos. Soon I came to the conclusion that these videos are really helpful and simply fun to watch.

"allthatglitters21" has a younger sister "juicystar07' who is also a beauty guru on youtube. Their videos are similar but they discuss different topics and they have different personalities of course. Their videos focus on anything related to makeup, fashion, and pop culture. They also do a lot of product reviews which helps for future references.

The thing I liked most about these girls is that they mentioned a bunch of websites that have really good sales. One of the latest websites was hautelook.com which is a new favourite. I look at it everyday and it has amazing sales!

If you're interested in any of these things check them out! Here are their websites:

Review: Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer

A friend recently suggested this to me and I really like it! I'm some one that is always self conscious that I look like a cake face hence I rarely wear foundation. I really wanted to try a new tinted moisturizer that would look natural but at the same time make my skin appear smooth and clear.

This tinted moisturizer is oil free which I love since my skin is naturally oily. It also has SPF 15 which is really important no matter how old you are. I also love it because it's really lightweight so it looks really natural but it provides just the right amount of coverage.

I would definitely recommend this tinted moisturizer if you aren't a fan of wearing foundation every day but still want some coverage. I would also suggest using a powder on top to set everything. Let me know what you think!

Christmas Wish List Item #3

The third item I'm mentioning that's on my wish list is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Q Hillier handbag in navy blue.

The purse that I normally carry is either a light blue or dark purple Longchamp. I like these bags because they have enough room to hold practically anything and they are easy to clean... This comes in handy when you are a klutz and spill everything. Anyways, when I decided that I should get a "grown-up" leather bag I wanted one that was good quality and big enough to carry everything that I'm used to putting in my bag.

Of course I looked online at the new purses from Marc by Marc Jacobs, seeing as he's my favourite. At first I looked at the Classic Q Groovee purse and I really liked the shape of it but when I saw it in person I realized it was definitely not big enough. Then I looked at the Classic Q Hillier Hobo. I really liked having the option between a long strap and the short strap. Also, since it's a hobo bag it has a lot of room inside.
After much debate, I've come to the conclusion that this is the bag meant for me. The only problem is the price... It's $398 which would make a significant dent in my bank account. You're probably thinking, "If it's on her Christmas list, won't she get it as a gift?" I told my parents they weren't aloud to buy it for me. I want to be able to say I bought first "big girl bag" without anyone's hep. Of course I'm kind of wishing that some magical Santa will bring one and put it under my tree for me... I can dream right?

Christmas Wish List Item #2

I'm going to start off my mentioning that I hate feet. If I am near feet I will cringe. It's nothing personal to whoever's feet they are, it's not a personal space issue, it's strictly the fact that I think feet are repulsive. This does not apply to just other people's feet, I also find my own feet gross.

This brings me to my main point!! When I find a pair of shoes that make my feet look "nice" (if that's possible) I tend to have an obsession. So, when I was in bloomingdales I tried on a pair of Tory Burch flats. They were the black Reva quilted flats. LET ME TELL YOU, I FELL IN LOVE. These shoes make your feet look small and cute and gorgeous. I know this sounds really weird but I am officially obsessed...
Now you're probably wondering why I didn't just buy them. Well I honestly don't need another pair of flats and these shoes were $235. I knew that if I bought them I would feel guilty whenever I wore them. Also, where I live I have to wear Uggs for almost all of the winter so I wouldn't have the chance to wear them a lot.

It's no surprise that these shoes made it on my Christmas list. Whether I get them as a gift or not I'll be fine. I'm sure in a month I'll set my eyes on another pair of stunning shoes and I won't even remember these flats. Stay posted though and I will let you know!

New iPod Nano

This post is sort of a question for anyone reading this. I was wondering what everyone was thinking of the new iPod nano. I bought it as a gift and I'm not sure if I'm a fan. It's VERY small, (at least in my opinion) and when I saw it in the apple store I thought it was the shuffle. The nano is a completely touch screen and it has a clip which is convenient for exercising.

I know some people like how small it is but here's my dilemma. The person I was buying the iPod for doesn't have a huge library of music but they wanted an iPod to have to plug into their stereo system wired through their home. I got the 8GB which has the smallest room available and it's also the cheapest. When I was buying it though I was worried that this person might not like the touch element of it. The only other "non-touch" option that worked with the stereo system was the iPod classic which jumps a lot more in terms of price and space.

There's my rant! Let me know what your thoughts are!

What I'm Loving... Mascara

My favourite thing to shop for, out of EVERYTHING there is to shop for, would absolutely have to be makeup. I love sitting in front of a mirror and trying different things out. Even walking past a Sephora gives me chills of happiness. I'm also some one that if I find something I like, I'll stick with it for a long time.

In terms of mascara, I have a few that I swear by. Here's my list:

1) BADgal Lash Mascara, by Benefit Cosmetics
This is amazing for when you are going out and you want a dramatic lash. It definitely has one of the largest wands I have seen on a mascara but it make your lashes go on for miles. I tend to rub my eyes a lot and of course it does smudge quite a bit but nonetheless, an fabulous mascara.

2) Lash Activator, by Cargo Cosmetics
I was actually given this mascara to me to try by a friend and I can't get enough out of it. It has specific ingredients that help make your lashes appear thicker and prevent them from falling out. I have to admit that I actually do notice the difference and my lashes DO appear thicker. It's also one of my favourites because I love the small wand. It makes it easy to apply and there's limited clumping.
3) LashBlast, by Covergirl
This mascara is easily recognized by it's bright orange tube but it's also an amazing mascara. Even though it's a drugstore brand, there's something about it that makes it better than some designer brands. I was skeptical about the shape of the wand at first but it makes your lashes look full yet natural. LashBlast would have to be my favourite everyday mascara.

What I'm Loving... Nars Cosmetics

Nars is definitely one of my favourite makeup brands. I find that their makeup tends to be strongly pigmented and the colours are so much fun! Nars is famous for their "orgasm" blush and their other products with scandalous names.
My favourite product would be the "deep throat" blush... I know, not very settle. BUT it's a peachy-pink blush with some golden shimmer within it. This blush I would say is perfect for almost any skin colour. It's not too strong but it makes enough of a statement so that it's still fun!

For last minute gift ideas, makeup is always smart!!!!!!! .... mind you this is advice coming from an average teenage girl :)

Christmas Wish List Item #1

As I mentioned in my last post, I went to New York this past weekend. Before I went, a friend told me I had to visit the Kate Spade store. Of course we went and I was amazed! This is definitely a new obsession. We don't have any Kate Spade stores in Canada and her website doesn't even ship here. SO UPSETTING.

For a while now I've been wanting to get a new perfume. I love the ones I have now but I wanted to add something to my collection, to make it more exciting. Anyways, we were in the Kate Spade store and I picked up her perfume "Twirl." I cannot stop thinking about it! I couldn't buy it because I wasn't checking any luggage and I obviously wouldn't be able to bring a bottle of liquid perfume on the plane with me... so now Twirl is at the top of my Christmas list! It's a floral fragrance (my favourite kind) but it also has some fruity tones.
On the Kate Spade website the description of it is: "pink watermelon mingles with blackberry and red currant which is enhanced with a heart of fresh flowers including orange blossom, star jasmine, tiare flower and sweet magnolia. It's finished with luminous musks and a touch of french macaron." Even the description makes me smile!

If you're looking for a new fragrance to try, I highly recommend this one. It's fun, flirty, and of course girly!

$80 for 3.4 oz

New Purchase!

This weekend I was lucky enough to go to the US to shop this past weekend. The sales were amazing! I spent way too much Bloomingdales, I think it was damaging to my health.... and my bank account.

The favourite purchase of the weekend would definitely be my Michael Kors Charlton Demi Shoulder Bag. I've been eyeing up the purse for a little bit less than I year now so when I saw the sales at Bloomingdales, I couldn't say no. I got it in gunmetal which I thought was the most practical and fun. It's also the perfect size! It has just enough room for my phone, a credit card, and even a camera. Definitely a 10/10 in my opinion!

Daisy by Marc Jacobs

Daisy is definitely my go-to fragrance recently. I find that I can wear it whenever, daytime or nighttime. The scent is playful yet sophisticated. Feminine yet edgy. The bottle is adorable and only makes you love the perfume even more.

Notes: Strawberry, Violet Leaves, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Gardenia, Violet Petals, Jasmine Petals, Musk, Vanilla, White Woods

Trend Report

One Colour... Head to Toe!

style.com is reporting that a new trend this fall is wearing all one colour, not to worry about clashing colours. It was seen on many runways including Oscar de la Renta who paired this blue tweed suit with blue leggings.

I think this is a look that would something that you would wear once or twice to a specific event. In my opinion I would wear a dress with a brighter hue and then pair it with tights of a lighter shade. By having some contrast, you're still making a statement but, it doesn't look like it was an accident.

Thoughts On... Agyness Deyn

Lately I have been especially obsessed with British model, Agyness Deyn!

Agyness, currently 27, lives in England and is signed to several modelling agencies. She has appeared in advertisements for various brands including Burberry, Giorgio Armani, and Vivienne Westwood.

I am extremely jealous of how she can drastically change her hair colour or style and make it look amazing. She has that quirky look that only she can pull off. She has beautiful eyes that naturally draw you in.

Nail Polish

I absolutely love collecting nail polish. I get so much pleasure each time I buy a new one! I thought that it would be fun to list my favourites as of now but I have to say my taste is always changing. I'll try to keep updating because the list will change with the trends and the seasons.

OPI
-Malaga Wine:

This is a great colour for fall and winter because it's a beautiful deep red. It's a rich berry polish that I think is perfect for a night out or on toes.

-Tickly my France-y: (what I have on now)

This would have to be my favourite neutral colour I've tried. I have to admit, I was a little nervous when I bought this because I tend to go for the usual pink nail polishes. You need about 2-3 coats to really see the colour but it looks amazing on. The colour is a milky brown and it is perfect for any skin tone and for any occasion.

Essie
-Neo Whimsical:

It looks like a light pink at first but when you look closely you can definitely see the touch of lilac it has. This is one of my favourites because it's different from a light pink which makes it fun to wear but it's also light enough to make it easy to wear. It's similar to OPI's Pandamonium Pink.

-California Coral:

SO much fun to wear! I always wear this colour on my nails when I'm on holiday or even when I feel like wearing a bright colour. The name is exactly what it looks like: an orangey coral with a hint of pink. This is definitely my go to summer colour.

-Sole Mate:

Perfect for fall! It's a darker purple that I would describe as being a mix of burgundy or plum-like. I love wearing this on my toes and I really like how it looks with my light skin tone.

Favourite Stores

Here's my list and explanation of my top five favourite stores that I enjoy shopping at:

1) Forever 21
Who doesn't love this store? Everything is extremely cheap and they have such a huge variety. Personally, I think that their clothes are better in the summer and that the winter selection doesn't appeal to me as much. The only annoying thing about Forever 21 is how busy the store gets on weekends. This is when I usually go and I find that it takes SO long to get into a fitting room and then you have to wait FOREVER to pay. Although it's always hectic, this store will always be a top choice. My favourite items from here are their graphic t-shirts, dresses, and shorts.

2) H&M
Definitely my favourite store at the moment. I find that my style is always changing but I ALWAYS find things I like there. I just went last weekend and bought this navy blue lace shirt and I can't wait to wear it. H&M also has a relatively good price point and the quality of their clothing is also pretty good. There is always such a huge selection and the clothes are so much fun to wear! My favourite items from here are their skirts, shirts, and all of the accessories.

3) Zara
Zara doesn't necessarily have the most "exciting" clothing but they always have the perfect staple pieces. I would say that the selection is simple and somewhat preppy, in a good way. The quality of the clothing is pretty good so if you take care of everything you buy, it should last forever. I've bought sweaters that I have had for years and haven't a) gone out of style and b) fallen apart. The price point is pretty similar to H&M, not cheap but not hundreds of dollars for a pair of jeans. My favourite items from here are their cardigans and blazers.

4) Urban Outfitters
The majority of the clothing is quite expensive here but I find that everything is original. This isn't the store that you go to when you want to replace your whole wardrobe but instead you go to and find one special piece. Similar to Zara, the quality is relatively good so even though it's not very cheap, it will last you a long time. My favourite pieces from here are definitely their dresses and t-shirts.

5) Mendocino
I would say this is definitely the store that most represents my style. Again, it's pretty expensive so I don't get to shop here a lot but it's fun to go to if you need an outfit for a special occasion. The style has a lot of glitter and always incorporates the latest trends. The clothes have fun details that make the store exciting and different in my opinion. My favourite things to buy here are the fancy tops and the dresses.
